The Origin Story
From Turkey Plants to Bitcoin Printers
Rick was a Senior Industrial Engineer at Jennie-O Turkey Store in Minnesota — designing production lines, solving manufacturing problems, running numbers. Good career. Wrong life.
In college he’d fallen in love with 3D printing through a senior design project. When he found Bitcoin in 2017, the two passions collided. Nobody was making the accessories he wanted — precise cases for hardware wallets, mounts that actually fit, products built by someone who understood the technology. So he made them himself.
The first product was a Ledger Nano S mount, designed and printed in December 2017. He listed it on Etsy. People bought it. More people wanted it.
Building the Operation
He launched an early version of the store, adopted BTCPay Server in 2018 — before most Bitcoin businesses had heard of it — and never looked back.
By 2019 he was at the Lightning Conference in Berlin, running the whole operation solo. By 2020 the team was growing. By 2022 he’d left Jennie-O, moved to Colorado, and CryptoCloaks was his full-time life.
We were established at Block #496,801. We’ve built through two bear markets. We’re still here.
The Bitcoin Grenade — The Accidental Icon
120 Units. Vietnamese Customs. A Vietnam War Veteran.
Rick designed the Bitcoin Grenade for the CryptoEcon conference in Hanoi, Vietnam. 120 units, meant to be handed out as conference swag. Getting them there wasn’t easy.
Vietnamese customs pulled the shipment. Officials were alarmed enough by 120 realistic-looking grenades that they brought in a Vietnam War veteran to physically inspect them and confirm they weren’t weapons. They cleared.
Then COVID shut the conference down before it started. The grenades got distributed randomly. Bitcoiners loved them.
The Bitcoin Grenade has since been spotted in the hands of Max Keiser, Paris Hilton, Soulja Boy, and Tucker Carlson. It’s been featured in Bitcoin publications worldwide. It was never designed to be iconic. It just was.
It’s still our most recognizable product. Still made to order. Still the same design.

Two Shops — Colorado and Florida
HQ: Colorado
The main operation runs out of Colorado. Designed, printed, and shipped by a team of actual Bitcoiners who use everything we make.
Professional Bambu machines. Tight tolerances. Real quality control from someone with a manufacturing engineering background.
Second Location: Florida
The Florida shop is managed by Mopar, who’s been part of the CryptoCloaks team for over three years and runs 14 printers out of his location.
Two shops means faster US shipping, more capacity for large orders, and real redundancy in the operation.
Bitcoin-Native Since Day One
Self-Custodied. On-Chain and Lightning. Since 2018.
CryptoCloaks has accepted bitcoin since 2018 — through BTCPay Server, self-custodied, on-chain and Lightning. We don’t use a payment processor. We don’t hold fiat on behalf of a middleman. When you pay in bitcoin, it goes straight to our wallet.
We also accept fiat. But bitcoin is how we think, how we price long-term, and how we save. We’ve been in bitcoin since Block #496,801. We’ve watched two bear markets come and go. We kept building through both.

About Rick
Senior Industrial Engineer → Full-Time Bitcoiner
Rick has been in bitcoin since 2017 — Block #496,801. Before CryptoCloaks was full-time, he was a Senior Industrial Engineer in food manufacturing. He brings that same precision to running a 3D print shop: tolerances, materials, throughput, quality control.
It’s manufacturing, just for Bitcoiners.
“Every Bitcoiner should own a 3D printer.”
— Rick, Bitcoin News 2025“It’s self-sovereignty on a whole different level.”
