- +

The Canaan Avalon Nano 3S is a compact 6 TH/s SHA-256 home Bitcoin miner rated at 140W maximum. The power supply is included. It is a practical first ASIC for learning pool or solo mining without the electrical and ventilation demands of a full-size miner.

It still behaves like an always-on miner: expect audible airflow, warm exhaust, and mining results that change with network difficulty, pool terms, fees, uptime, and Bitcoin price. We do not promise a fixed daily payout, profit, or payback date.

Power, operating cost, and heat

At the published 140W maximum, continuous operation uses up to 3.36 kWh per day or 100.8 kWh over 30 days. Your actual bill depends on your electricity rate and operating time.

Electricity rate Daily cost at 140W 30-day cost
$0.10/kWh $0.34 $10.08
$0.15/kWh $0.50 $15.12
$0.20/kWh $0.67 $20.16
$0.30/kWh $1.01 $30.24

Nearly all electricity used by a miner ends up as heat in the room. At 140W, the Nano 3S provides roughly 478 BTU/h of supplemental warmth. That can be useful near a desk or in a small cool area, but it is not a replacement for a full-size room heater and the heat is not free.

Power-connection safety

Use the bundled adapter and cable, fully seat the USB-C plug, and keep strain off the connection. Avoid humid or condensing locations. Power the miner off if you notice abnormal heat or odor.

Canaan has published a notice about limited reports of USB-C connector overheating or melting under continuous high load, humidity, or with partially seated plugs. Read Canaan’s Nano 3S safety notice for its inspection, upgrade, and replacement guidance.

Setup expectations

Before ordering, plan for:

  1. The included PSU and power hardware. The purchase selector currently covers miner color only, so contact CryptoCloaks before ordering if you need a specific regional plug.
  2. A stable network connection and a compatible Bitcoin mining pool or solo-mining endpoint.
  3. A Bitcoin address you control for payouts.
  4. Open space around the intake and exhaust.
  5. A first-day check of the power connection, reported hashrate, fan behavior, and temperature.
  6. A room where roughly 140W of continuous heat and audible airflow are acceptable.

Pool mining provides smaller, steadier credited work than solo mining. Solo mining is lottery-like and does not provide a predictable return. Neither mode supports a fixed earnings or payback promise.

Who should buy the Nano 3S?

It makes sense if you want:

  • A compact first ASIC for learning home Bitcoin mining.
  • 6 TH/s without the electrical and airflow project of a full-size miner.
  • A pool or solo-mining setup with the PSU included.
  • Supplemental warmth from hardware that is also hashing.

Skip it if you need:

  • Silent operation.
  • Predictable profit or a guaranteed payback date.
  • Enough heat to replace a full-size room heater.
  • An industrial-scale hashrate-per-dollar setup.

Canaan Avalon Nano 3S FAQ

What hashrate and power does the Nano 3S use?

Canaan publishes 6 TH/s and 140W maximum. That works out to about 23.3 W/TH using the published figures.

Is it silent?

No. Canaan lists a 33–40 dB range. Placement, room temperature, fan speed, and surrounding surfaces can change how it sounds in your space.

Can it run on a standard US outlet?

The current offer includes a PSU, and Canaan lists US and EU adapter variants. This product’s purchase selector currently covers miner color only. Contact CryptoCloaks before ordering if you need a specific regional plug, and use the bundled power hardware.

Is the Nano 3S profitable?

There is no fixed answer. Mining results change with network difficulty, pool terms, fees, uptime, Bitcoin price, and your electricity rate. Use current inputs and treat any earnings estimate as temporary, not guaranteed.

Does it replace a space heater?

No. Its roughly 140W of heat can provide supplemental warmth near a desk or in a small cool area, but it is far below the output of a typical full-size room heater.

Can it pool mine or solo mine?

Yes. It can send SHA-256 work to a compatible pool or solo-mining endpoint. Pool mining provides steadier credited work; solo mining is lottery-like.

Can it mine other coins?

It is SHA-256 hardware sold here for Bitcoin mining.

I ordered one to check it out and go along with my other stuff. It works flawlessly. Can’t hear it at all in my living room. Very elegant looking display piece I might add. I had shipping details within an hour or two of placing order. Today I ordered two more and I might have got shipping details even faster. Customer service is fantastic. I’ll be back again and again.
